Cley Windmill Hotel: Norfolk’s Best Windmill Hotel?
Cley windmill hotel is one of Norfolk’s finest windmill hotels, if not one of the best in the country. However, with its reasonable prices and romantic appeal rooms book up early, so if planning a stay here be sure to get your reservation in early.
The mill itself is steeped in history, parts of the building date back to the 18th century and the mill is in fully restored condition, including main and rear sails.
A variety if rooms are available including rooms in the main windmill itself and a number of cottage style lets.
Rooms are available on a B&B basis on all three floors of the mill, “the Wheel Room” which occupies floor three has its en suite facilities up at the top of the mill on floor four. The hotel also offers two self catering cottages, one being a converted stable block next to the windmill, the other being the old bakery building in nearby Blakeney.
Each of the rooms has its own unique flavour with the Miller’s room and River room occupying the ground floor, the Barley Bin and Wheat Chamber the 1st floor, the Stone room on floor on the 2nd floor and the Wheel Room occupying top of the tower on floor three and four.
Prices vary dependent upon the day and time of year but in general rooms range from £100 per person per night on a B&B basis in the main building, up to £179 per person per night at busier periods. In addition, for a good portion of the year there is a two night minimum stay.
While the hotel is famed for its round rooms in the main building, dining at Cley windmill is also an experience in its own right. As with mill itself the restaurant fills up early so advanced booking is recommended, food is based around traditional English fare, although special dietary requirements can be catered for on request.
