The Citadel Hotel Weston: One of Britain’s Most Romantic Hotels.
The Citadel Hotel at Weston under Redcastle is perhaps on of Britain’s most romantic hotels. In the county of Shropshire, the hotel offers an ideal base of exploring other local attractions such as Ironbridge, the birth place of the industrial revolution. Or perhaps you will choose to take a trip to the West over into the dramatic landscapes of Wales.
Despite the castle like exterior of the citadel, it is perhaps the fact that the building was never intended to be used as a fortification which makes the hotel such a romantic location today.
The castle was actually built in the 1820’s as a present to the sister and mother of the land owner Sir Roland.
The main building is constructed from a local salmon red sandstone which gives the building a unique pink hue. The castle itself is fashioned into three interlinked towers complete with exaggerated cross loop windows and battlements at the top of the building.
The hotel has three options available to guest, the West Turret Suite, The Hill Room and the Round Turret Suite. The Round Turret Suite may offer the best option, the room has its own en suite facilities, while the other two rooms both have access to private bathrooms.
Rates for the West and Round Turret Suites are £60-£65 per person per night on a B&B basis or £50-£55 for the hill room. Dinner is available by prior arrangement for £28, although it should be noted that the hotel does not have a licence to serve alcohol. In light of this the owners are happy to allow guests to bring their own wine for consumption on the premises.
So whether you’re looking to take a trip over the boarder into Wales or simply experience the historic surroundings of the Shropshire countryside, there are few hotels with such a unique feel and romantic nature in the local area.
